Propeller Repair and Modification

The following repairs and modifications can be carried out on all propeller types made from aluminium bronzes and stainless steels :-

Propeller damage – Specialist procedures to realign bent blades, weld repair of impact damage, weld build-up of eroded outboard propellers.

Cavitation damage – Weld repair of damaged areas.

Blade repitching – To alter engine loading / speed, increase or decrease bollard pull.

Blade tip damage – Weld repair of damaged areas to restore the correct diameter and blade profile. In extreme cases new blade tips can be cast and welded on then profiled to the original dimensions.

Propeller diameter changes – Increasing or decreasing the diameter to alter vessel / engine speed or acceleration characteristics.

Waterjet / Pump Impellers – Weld repair of cavitation or impact damage, specialist finishing and balancing after repair.

Prior to and after any repair, all propellers have pitch and diameter checks carried out. After repair overall cleaning is carried out followed by static balancing and polishing.

NDT (Dye pen) checks are carried out after specialist weld repairs.

Repairs can be carried out to Classification Society requirements with surveyors attending to carry out inspections.
